i have had a mountain of correspondence from dimmer fans regarding the
latest dimmer video, details of which are known intimately to me thru my
being shayne.p.carter's unpaid press secretary.
i have also just had a mountain of correspondence from carter himself
regarding the actual trotting race that was held for the video last
weekend. it is tedious and tiresome and runs to over seventy pages but i
will endeavour to get to the guts of it for NZPOP readers......
carter had seven driving lessons before this race took place. it is
probably unfair to carter to point out that other rock stars who have done
trotting videos (and lord knows there have  been hundreds) have needed only
two lessons. but carter needed seven. that's just the way it was. because
carter is carter.
there was a plot to this video which related ever so vaguely to the song,
but because carter is a highly competitive beast, and because he had grit
in his eyes because he wasn't wearing a visor like you are supposed to only
he couldn't wear a visor otherwise the rock audience wouldn't see it was
carter, the whole plot went down the toilet when carter hit the straight,
hitting his horse with  whip like a crazy man as the finishing line
beckoned, howling out the chorus to the old Bored Games hit "joe 90" as
track watchers threw themselves on the ground, fearing for their lives.
i won't give away the ending, but you can see from the above that while
carter's incompetence may well have ruined the aesthetic aim of the video,
it has nevertheless accidentally resulted in some top class telly.
besides, they can probably fix it up in post-production. they always do
after all..
